Udio pricing, use cases, and first steps

Udio makes a complete song, music and vocals, from a short description. The service works, but it has been in a transition period since its agreements with the record labels: since October 29, 2025, tracks can no longer be downloaded. You listen to them and share them by link, on Udio’s site only.

Udio has a free plan. The recommended plan to start with: Free, $0. Prices checked on October 3, 2026 on the vendor’s official page.

What Udio does

Who it’s for: people who want to test a music idea or make the team smile with a song, without needing the audio file.

A song from a description

You write a sentence: the subject, the style, the mood. Udio composes the music, writes the lyrics, and has them sung. Each request gives two versions, 32 seconds or 2 minutes 10 seconds long.

Your own lyrics

You paste a text you wrote, and Udio sets it to music. You can also ask it for a first draft of lyrics, then edit it line by line.

Music without vocals

Instrumental mode produces a track with no singer. You describe only the style and the instruments.

Also

  • Extend a track
  • Start from a reference track
  • Choose the voice
  • Edit a passage

Udio pricing

Prices recorded in Udio’s help center, in dollars. In the iPhone app, the French App Store lists Standard at €10 and Pro at €35 per month. One month’s credits do not roll over to the next. The 7-day trial turns into a yearly Standard subscription if it is not canceled in time.

Pro$30 per monthCreators who produce a lot

What the free plan includes

10 credits per day, capped at 100 credits per month. Creating two 32-second clips costs 2 credits; two tracks of 2 minutes 10 seconds cost 4 credits, with a limit of three long creations per day. No downloads, whatever the plan.

Nova’s advice

Stay on the free plan. As long as downloads are turned off, a subscription does not give you a file to use in a video or a presentation. If you need an audio file, look at the alternatives at the bottom of this page instead.

What it does less well

  • No downloads since October 29, 2025: no audio, no video, no separate stems. So you cannot put a track in a video, a presentation, or phone hold music.
  • The service is in transition. Udio has announced a new version built with the record labels, without giving a date. Features and prices may change.
Create a 30-second song for a team occasionUdio
  1. On the “Home” page, click in the input field and paste the description below.
  2. Under “Clip Length,” keep the short 32-second duration: it costs fewer credits, and it is enough to judge.
  3. Click “Create.” Udio makes two versions for every request.
  4. Listen to both versions. If neither works, change one word of the description (the style, the tempo) and try again.
  5. To let others hear the best version, click the share button in the player and send the link. There is no download button.

The prompt to copy

An upbeat pop song, in English, to celebrate our company’s tenth anniversary. A chorus that is easy to sing together, guitar and hand claps.
