Build by describing
You write what you want, and Bolt writes the code and shows the app next to the chat. You then ask for changes one at a time, in your own words.
Bolt is a website that builds sites and apps from a description. You write what you want in a chat box, and an agent writes the code, creates the database, and shows the result alongside. You fix things by chatting, then go live in two clicks. Everything happens in the browser: there is nothing to install.
Bolt has a free plan. The recommended plan to start with: Free, $0. Prices checked on October 3, 2026 on the vendor’s official page.
Who it’s for: people who need a small internal tool, a prototype, or a landing page, and have no developer on hand.

In “Plan” mode, Bolt talks with you without touching the code. It proposes a plan, you correct it, then you start the build with the “Implement this plan” button. You avoid spending your allowance on a wrong path.
You click a heading, a button, or an image in the preview and change it directly: text, color, size, alignment. Edits are free as long as you do not save them.

Prices are published in dollars. The pricing page advertises up to 28% off with yearly billing. Pro comes in several tiers, depending on the monthly allowance. Subscriptions are non-refundable. A “Lite” plan at $9 per month, limited to the “Forge” agent, is open by waitlist.
| Plan | Price | Who it’s for |
|---|---|---|
| Free Recommended to start | $0 | Try it out, build a prototype |
| Pro | $25 per month | Build a real tool and keep it online |
| Teams | $30 per member per month | A team that builds together |
| Enterprise | Custom pricing | Large organizations |
Yes. 300,000 tokens per day and 1 million per month: enough to build and refine a small project. Public or private projects, databases, site hosting (with the “Made in Bolt” badge, 333,000 requests per month). Published sites are visible to everyone. Only the “Standard” agent is available.
Start for free: the monthly allowance lets you build a first prototype and judge the tool. Move to Pro the day you hit the daily limit, or when the site needs to be restricted to your colleagues. As long as the site is public, put no real data in it.
Your data. Bolt is made by a US company. For an account based in the European Union, your projects are not used to train its AI unless you turn that on.
What it does less well
The prompt to copy
Build a web app in English to track quote requests. Each request has: the customer name, the date, the estimated amount, a status (received, quote sent, followed up, won, lost), and a note. I want a sortable list, a button to add a request, and at the top the total amounts per status. Add three fictional requests as examples.
The closest competitor: same idea, with a very guided approach for beginners.
For an internal tool with its data and accounts, without ever seeing code.
Same idea, with an agent that builds and hosts the app, and languages other than JavaScript.
For a polished page or interface, published on Vercel.
