Docusign pricing, use cases, and first steps

Docusign is professional e-signature software: you upload a document, say who signs, and each person signs from their computer or phone. Its AI, called Iris, adds three kinds of help: it places the signature fields, it summarizes the contract for the signer and answers their questions, and it files your signed contracts and pulls out the dates and amounts.

Docusign has a free plan. The recommended plan to start with: Standard, €23 per user per month, billed yearly (€276). Prices checked on October 3, 2026 on the vendor’s official page.

What Docusign does

Who it’s for: sales, HR, legal, and procurement people who get documents signed by people outside the company, often abroad.

Get a document signed online

You upload the document, then say who signs and in what order. Each person gets an email, a text message, or a WhatsApp message with a link, and signs on the device of their choice. You track progress and get a notification at each signature.

Iris places the fields for you

When you prepare a send, Iris spots where the signature, the date, and the fields to fill in should go, and puts them in the right place. It also suggests the cover message, written from the content of the document.

A summary and answers for the signer

Before signing, the person sees a summary of the document’s key points. They can also type a question, for example about termination or payments, and get an answer drawn from the document.

Also

  • Agreement Manager: the binder that reads contracts
  • The contract review assistant
  • Templates, bulk send, and forms
  • Three signature levels recognized in Europe
  • Iris assistant and agents

What the free plan includes

Signing a document someone sends you is always free. To send your own documents, there is a 30-day trial with no credit card. After that, you need a subscription.

Nova’s advice

If all you do is sign, pay nothing. To send a few documents a month, Personal is enough. Standard is the right choice once there are several of you or you want your logo. IAM plans are only worth it if you have a lot of contracts to track over time.

What it does less well

  • New AI features arrive first in the United States and in English. The Iris assistant and the agents have not yet been announced for France. The French website also states that summaries of filed contracts work only for texts in English.
  • Quotas are tight: 5 envelopes per month on Personal, 100 per user per year on Standard and Business Pro. Check your volume before you choose.
Get a document signed by a coworkerDocusign
  1. Log in at account.docusign.com and start a new send. In Docusign, a send is called an “envelope.”
  2. Upload a PDF or Word file with nothing at stake, for example a one-page approval form.
  3. Add a recipient: the name and email address of a coworker who has agreed to play along.
  4. Look at the document: Iris suggests where the signature and date fields go. Move them if needed.
  5. Send. Your coworker gets an email, opens the document, reads the suggested summary, then signs.
  6. Go back to your account: the signed document is waiting for you, ready to download.
