Clay is specialized software for sales and marketing teams. It looks like a spreadsheet: one row per person or company. You add columns, and Clay fetches the information from more than 150 data providers. Its AI, Claygent, also visits websites to answer your questions, row by row, and writes tailored messages.
Clay has a free plan. The recommended plan to start with: Free, $0. Prices checked on October 3, 2026 on the vendor’s official page.

What Clay does
Who it’s for: sales and marketing teams that build precise prospect lists and have someone comfortable with spreadsheets to set it up.
Find people and companies in one sentence
Sculptor is Clay’s search assistant. You describe your target in everyday language and it sets the filters for you: job title, industry, headcount, location. You make corrections, then save the list to a table.
The provider waterfall
To find an email or a phone number, Clay queries several data providers one after another and stops as soon as one answers. You only spend credits on information that was actually found.
The “Use AI” column
You write a prompt and the AI fills the column for each row. It can read a website, rephrase or classify information already in the table, or create an image.

Clay pricing
Clay publishes its prices in dollars. The price depends on the volume of data credits you choose, and the site shows a lower starting price with yearly billing. On Launch and Growth, unused credits roll over up to twice the monthly volume; actions, however, reset to zero each month.

Nova’s advice
Stay on the free plan while you are learning: it includes the main features. Clay gets expensive from the first paid plan. Only take it if someone on the team uses it every week and knows how to keep an eye on consumption.
A first try, in 15 minutes
Your data. Clay is a US vendor that displays several security certifications, but you remain responsible for how you use the personal data you collect in it.
What it does less well
The tool is complex, and everything is in English. Plan on several hours of training before you are comfortable. This is not a tool you open for five minutes a week.
Two meters to watch: actions and credits. A column run by mistake on 10,000 rows can use up the month in a few minutes.
Build a list of 20 prospects and have it filled inClay
Click “Find people.” In the Sculptor assistant’s box, describe your target in one sentence: job title, industry, company size, country.
Sculptor turns your sentence into filters. Review each filter, widen the ones that are too narrow, and look at the number of results.
Click “Continue,” then save to a new workbook. Keep about twenty rows for this first try.
Click “Add column,” then “Use AI.” Stay on the “Generate” tab.
Paste the prompt below. Clay prepares the column and links it to the right information in the table.
Run it on just a few rows, read the answers, then extend it to the rest if the result is good.
The prompt to copy
For each company, read its website and write in one sentence what it sells and to whom. Answer in English. If you can’t find the information, write “not found” and don’t make anything up.
Free: $0; Launch: from $167 per month, no annual commitment; Growth: from $446 per month, no annual commitment; Enterprise: custom pricing, annual commitment. Prices checked on October 3, 2026 on the vendor’s official page.
