Kimi pricing, use cases, and first steps

Kimi is the assistant from Moonshot AI, a young Chinese company. You write to it as you would to ChatGPT, but its specialty is producing a finished result: an editable presentation, a research report, a spreadsheet, a web page. On a computer, the “Kimi Work” app works directly in your folders. The site and the apps are available in French.

Kimi has a free plan. The recommended plan to start with: Free, $0. Prices checked on October 3, 2026 on the vendor’s official page.

What Kimi does

Who it’s for: people who often prepare presentations and summaries, on topics with no confidential data.

Editable presentations

“Slides” turns an idea, a PDF, a Word file, or a spreadsheet into laid-out slides. Charts and diagrams stay editable. You can provide your own PowerPoint template to follow the company’s brand guidelines.

In-depth research

Kimi reads many sources, then writes a structured report. One report uses a notable share of your credits.

Documents, spreadsheets, and web pages

Kimi writes a document, builds a spreadsheet, or makes a small web page from your description. It also reads the Office files and PDFs you attach.

Also

  • Kimi Work: an agent in your folders
  • Act in the browser and on screen
  • Several agents in parallel
  • Extensions to your other tools
  • Scheduled tasks

Kimi pricing

Prices published in dollars on the international site. In the iPhone app, the same plans are shown in euros and cost more: €22 for Moderato, €45 for Allegretto, €99 for Allegro, €229 for Vivace. All features draw on the same pool of credits, reset every month. Unused credits are lost.

Moderato$19 per month, or $15 per month billed yearlyRegular use
Allegretto$39 per month, or $31 per month billed yearlyDaily professional use
Allegro$99 per month, or $79 per month billed yearlyHeavy use
Vivace$199 per month, or $159 per month billed yearlyTechnical teams, very large volumes

What the free plan includes

A free account lets you chat and try the advanced features with a small amount of credits. Moonshot doesn’t publish that amount. As a guide, the vendor estimates that a simple presentation uses 1 to 2% of it, and a research report 5 to 10%.

Nova’s advice

Try a presentation and a research report for free before anything else. The Moderato plan is only worth it if you build presentations every week. The plans above it are for developers and heavy agent users.

A first try, in 6 minutes

Your data. A Chinese vendor that uses your content to train its assistant and doesn’t say which country it’s stored in. Keep it for non-confidential topics.

What it does less well

  • Your content is used for training and the storage country isn’t stated. No internal documents, no customer data, no employee names.
  • Agents still make mistakes, here as elsewhere. The examples Moonshot highlights are simple: tidying a folder, converting files in batches. For a long task across several sites, watch every step: a failed task still uses credits.
Have a six-slide presentation builtKimi
  1. Open kimi.ai, log in, then click “Slides” in the menu.
  2. Paste the prompt below. It covers a general topic: don’t put internal figures in it.
  3. Kimi prepares the content, then lays out the slides. Wait while it builds.
  4. Click a slide to fix a title, or write your change request in the conversation.
  5. Download the result in PowerPoint format and open it to check the layout.

The prompt to copy

Create a six-slide presentation to explain to a sales team how to prepare well for a client meeting: goals, research before the meeting, questions to ask, common objections, follow-up, mistakes to avoid. Simple tone, little text per slide.
