WooCommerce pricing, use cases, and first steps

WooCommerce is business software: a free plugin that turns a WordPress site into an online store (products, orders, payments, shipping). AI stays in the background: a help assistant, an assistant in the mobile app, and a connection still in testing that lets an assistant like Claude view and change your products and orders.

WooCommerce has a free plan. The recommended plan to start with: WooCommerce plugin, $0. Prices checked on October 3, 2026 on the vendor’s official page.

What WooCommerce does

Who it’s for: companies whose site already runs on WordPress, and those that want a store with no subscription and no commission on sales.

The catalog and product pages

You create simple products, products with variations (sizes, colors), bundles, products with no shipping, or downloadable files. Each page carries its price, sale price, stock, and photos.

Payments, with WooPayments or another provider

WooPayments is WooCommerce’s payment solution, available in France. You can also connect Stripe, PayPal, bank transfer, or cash on delivery, with no fees added by WooCommerce.

Sales reports

Reports by revenue, orders, products, categories, coupons, customers, stock, and taxes. You compare a period with the previous one or with the year before, and download the table as a .csv file.

WooCommerce pricing

WooCommerce publishes these amounts in dollars. WooPayments fees for France are published in euros, excluding the 20% VAT on those fees.

What the free plan includes

The WooCommerce plugin is free: no subscription, no commission on your sales. You pay separately for site hosting, the payment provider’s fees, and any paid extensions you add.

Nova’s advice

If your site is already on WordPress, install the plugin: it costs nothing and you’ll quickly see whether it suits you. If you’re starting from scratch and no one handles the technical side, compare with an all-in-one subscription first. The software is free, but hosting, extensions, and payment fees make up the real bill.

A first try, in 10 minutes

Your data. The store and your customers’ data are kept on your site, with the host you choose; WooCommerce does not host them.

What it does less well

  • You need a WordPress site, a host, and someone to handle updates and backups. This is not a store ready in an hour.
  • There is little AI for a beginner. The product page documentation describes no writing help, and the connection to an assistant is still in testing.
Add your first product and see it in the storeWooCommerce
  1. In the WordPress menu, open “Products,” then click the button to add a product (“Add New”).
  2. Give the product a name and write a short description.
  3. Enter the regular price. If you’re running a promotion, add the reduced sale price in the field provided.
  4. Add the product photo, then publish.
  5. Open the product page on your site to see what a customer will see.
  6. In the mobile app, check that the product shows up in your catalog.
