Transcribe an audio or video file
You drag a file into the window and get the text. MacWhisper accepts the mp3, wav, m4a, ogg, opus, mov, and mp4 formats, in about a hundred languages.
MacWhisper is a Mac app that turns a recording into text. You drag an audio or video file into the window, and the transcript appears. All the work happens on your computer: the file is not sent anywhere. That makes it a good fit for confidential interviews and meetings.
MacWhisper has a free plan. The recommended plan to start with: MacWhisper Free, €0. Prices checked on October 3, 2026 on the vendor’s official page.
Who it’s for: mac users with recordings to put in writing: reviews, meetings, interviews, voice memos, training videos.

MacWhisper groups the text by speaker. It first calls them “Speaker 1,” “Speaker 2.” You rename them, and you merge two speakers if it split the same person in two.
You drop in several files at once and they are transcribed one after another. You can also paste the address of a YouTube video or an online file. For a podcast recorded with one file per person, it assembles the dialogue.
