Dictate in any app
One shortcut starts the recording, and the same one stops it. The text is pasted wherever your cursor is. If you hold the key instead of tapping it, it records only while you hold.
Superwhisper turns your voice into text in any app. You press a shortcut, you speak, and the formatted text is typed wherever your cursor is. What sets it apart: speech recognition can happen on your device, with a model you download once, without sending anything online.
Superwhisper has a free plan. The recommended plan to start with: Free, $0. Prices checked on October 3, 2026 on the vendor’s official page.
Who it’s for: people who dictate sensitive content (HR, finance, leadership, health care, legal) and accept a few settings up front.

You download a speech recognition model to your computer once. After that, your voice is transcribed on the spot: nothing is sent online, and dictation works on a train or a plane.
A mode decides the formatting. “Message” writes short, “Mail” drafts an email, “Note” organizes your ideas, “Voice to Text” gives back your words as spoken. A tone slider goes from “Casual” to “Formal.”
