QuillBot pricing, use cases, and first steps

QuillBot is a website that rephrases your writing. You paste a passage, choose a style, and it rewrites it while keeping the meaning. Around that feature, it brings together other writing tools: a grammar checker, a summarizer, a translator, and a detector for AI-written text. Basic paraphrasing is free, with no sign-up.

QuillBot has a free plan. The recommended plan to start with: Free, $0. Prices checked on October 3, 2026 on the vendor’s official page.

What QuillBot does

Who it’s for: anyone stuck on wording: an email that sounds too curt, a sentence that runs too long, a paragraph to say more simply.

Paraphrase a passage

You paste a text and QuillBot rewrites it while keeping the meaning. Each mode gives a style: smoother, more formal, simpler, shorter, more developed. It works in more than twenty languages, including French.

Choose your words and control how much changes

In the paraphrased text, you click a word to see synonyms and pick another. A slider sets how much changes: few edits and a very faithful meaning, or a freer version.

Compare modes and find your history

QuillBot lets you compare the results of several modes for the same sentence, and keeps a history of your paraphrases. We could not verify whether these two features are included in the free plan.

Also

  • Fix mistakes
  • Summarize a long text
  • Translate
  • Detect AI-written text, check for plagiarism

What the free plan includes

Paraphrasing up to 125 words at a time, as many times as you like, in two modes (“Standard” and “Fluency”). The grammar checker. Basic summaries. Limited access to the detector for AI-written text.

Nova’s advice

The free plan is enough for the most common office use: saying a sentence or a paragraph another way. Only pay if you paraphrase long texts every day, or if you need the “Formal” and “Shorten” modes. If you write mostly in French, compare with DeepL Write and LanguageTool first.

What it does less well

  • The free plan stops at 125 words per passage and two modes. The most useful modes at the office, “Formal” and “Shorten,” are paid.
  • Not everything works in French: according to the help, the summarizer and the plagiarism checker work only in English. The site we reviewed is in English.
Reword a sentence that won’t come out rightQuillBot
  1. Open quillbot.com/paraphrasing-tool.
  2. Paste a sentence from an email that feels heavy or too curt. An invoice reminder makes a good test.
  3. Leave the “Standard” mode on and click “Paraphrase.”
  4. Read the suggested version. Click a word you don’t like: a list of synonyms opens.
  5. Move the synonyms slider. To the left, the text stays close to yours. To the right, it changes more.
  6. Try the “Fluency” mode, compare the two versions, and copy the one that says exactly what you mean.
