Antidote pricing, use cases, and first steps

Antidote is a grammar checker designed in Quebec for French and English. It proofreads your writing in Word, Outlook, your webmail, or your browser, explains each error, and suggests the correction. It also brings together dictionaries and grammar guides. Since version 12, it can rephrase a sentence for you: shorten it, soften it, rewrite it.

Antidote has no free plan. The recommended plan to start with: Antidote+ Personal, one language, $59.95 the first year, then $48 per year. Prices checked on October 3, 2026 on the vendor’s official page.

What Antidote does

Who it’s for: anyone who writes a lot in French and does not want to let a single error through: letters, reports, proposals, contracts, publications.

The corrector, with every error explained

Antidote proofreads your whole text in one pass: spelling, grammar, agreement, punctuation, typography. For each error, it suggests the correction and explains the rule. Filters also spot repetitions and non-inclusive terms.

Rephrase a sentence

Antidote suggests several rewrites of a sentence, true to your idea. Five panels: “Réécrire” (rewrite), “Retoucher” (touch up), “Raccourcir” (shorten), “Modérer” to soften the tone, and “Épicéniser” for wording that addresses everyone.

Anti-Oops!: the safety net before you send

When you send an email, Antidote proofreads it. It stops you if errors remain, if you mention an attachment without adding it, or if the tone could hurt.

Also

  • Express correction: errors underlined as you type
  • The dictionaries
  • Grammar and writing guides
  • English as a second language
  • Shared writing rules for the company

Nova’s advice

Antidote has no free plan, but the 30-day trial is enough to judge it on your real texts. If you write in French every day, Antidote+ Personal in one language is the right choice. Choose the bilingual edition only if you also write in English. At a company, first ask whether a license already exists.

A first try, in 5 minutes

Your data. The corrector in an installed license works on your computer; Antidote Web and reformulation send the text to Druide’s servers, in Canada, without keeping it or using it for training.

What it does less well

  • No free plan. After the 30-day trial, you need a subscription.
  • Only two languages: French and English. For German, Spanish, or Italian, you need another tool.
Have a letter proofread before you send itAntidote
  1. In Word, open a letter or a set of meeting notes you just wrote.
  2. Select the text to proofread, then click the corrector button in Word’s Antidote toolbar.
  3. The corrector window opens with your text. Each error it detects is flagged, with the suggested correction and its explanation.
  4. Go through the detections one by one: approve the corrections that are right, ignore the ones that do not apply to your case.
  5. Then pick a sentence that is too long and switch to Reformulation mode. Try “Raccourcir” (shorten), then keep the version that says exactly what you mean.
  6. Close the window: your Word document contains the corrected text.
