Doctrine pricing, use cases, and first steps

Doctrine is a French legal research platform for lawyers and in-house counsel. It is a professional tool: it brings together court decisions, codes, statutes, and European texts. Its AI, called “Assistant,” answers your legal questions with cited sources, analyzes your documents, and helps you draft. Dedicated tools handle contracts and litigation files.

Doctrine has a free plan. The recommended plan to start with: Doctrine subscription, see the website. Prices checked on October 3, 2026 on the vendor’s official page.

What Doctrine does

Who it’s for: lawyers, in-house counsel, CPAs, and HR managers who need to check a point of French law.

A legal answer with its sources

You ask your question in plain language. Assistant searches statutes, codes, court decisions, and tax content, then writes a structured answer: the texts, the case law, the conclusion. Each source can be checked in one click.

Two ways to answer

The detailed analysis gives a structured answer with sources and decisions. “Concis” (Concise) mode gives the essentials in a few lines, 50% faster according to Doctrine. Your choice applies to the whole conversation.

Have your documents read

You upload contracts, summonses, meeting minutes. Assistant summarizes them, looks for a clause, compares them, sorts them by date, or translates them. Up to 150 MB per file and 1 GB per conversation.

Also

  • Drafting help, in Word
  • “Flow Counsel”: review a contract
  • “Flow Litigate”: prepare for litigation
  • “Extraire des informations”: a table audit
  • Monitoring alerts

A free trial is offered on the pricing page. We were not able to confirm how long it lasts.

Nova’s advice

Start with the free trial, using two or three real questions from your week. If you are neither a lawyer nor in-house counsel, first check whether your legal department or your law firm already has a subscription: that is the most common case, and it saves you from paying twice.

A first try, in 5 minutes

Your data. Your documents are hosted in Europe and you can delete them; Doctrine is ISO 27001 certified.

What it does less well

  • Doctrine says so itself: errors are possible, and it cannot guarantee the accuracy of everything the AI produces. Open every cited source before you rely on an answer.
  • Very long decisions, over ten to fifteen pages, are not taken into account in answers. On European Union law, Doctrine does not guarantee full coverage.
Ask Assistant your first legal questionDoctrine
  1. On the Doctrine home page, open “Poser une question” (Ask a question).
  2. At the bottom right of the message box, choose the answer mode: the detailed analysis for a real case, or “Concis” (Concise) for a quick point.
  3. Type a single question in plain, everyday language, stating the area of law and the situation. You can start from the prompt below.
  4. Read the answer: it presents the legal texts, then the court decisions, then a conclusion.
  5. Click a cited source: it opens next to the answer, without leaving the page. Check that the text really says what the answer claims.
  6. Ask a follow-up question in the same conversation to dig into a point.

The prompt to copy

An employee in their probationary period wants to leave the company. How much notice must they give their employer, and what happens if they don’t? Give me the applicable texts and recent decisions from the Cour de cassation.
