What to check

Do not put a password, a server address, or an admin account in your notes.

Write a step-by-step procedure for usersMicrosoft Copilot · Microsoft 365 Copilot Chat
  1. Jot down the steps as you do them, with the exact name of each button.
  2. Open copilot.cloud.microsoft with your work account.
  3. Paste the prompt below and your notes into the “Message Copilot” box, then send.
  4. Follow the procedure yourself on a user’s computer, correct it, then publish it.

The prompt to copy

From my notes, write the procedure “[set up two-factor authentication, install the VPN, report an outage]” for employees who are not comfortable with computers. One action per step, numbered, with the exact name of the button in quotation marks and what the person should see on screen after each step. Add at the start what to have on hand and how much time to allow, and at the end the three most common mistakes with their fix. No technical term without an explanation. Write “screenshot here” where an image would help. Here are my notes: [paste].

Ground rules

The rules to follow with AI in this job

Always do this

  • You set the rules for everyone else: which tools are approved, with what type of account, and which data never goes into them. Write it down and make it known.
  • No password, no access key, no network diagram, and no server address in an assistant. Describe the need without describing your setup.
  • A script or a setting suggested by AI is understood, tested outside production, then deployed. Never in the other order.
  • Before opening a tool to employees, check three points: where the data is hosted, whether it is used for training, and whether a data processing agreement is offered.

Never hand this to AI

  • Pasting raw logs, configuration files, or directory exports into a personal account.
  • Letting an agent act alone on the directory, access rights, or backups.
  • Deciding on a purchase or a security measure on the strength of an assistant’s answer alone, without reading the vendor’s source.
