AI training for school principals

AI doesn’t run a school, and it knows neither your students nor your teams. It takes part of the writing off your plate: staff memos, meeting minutes, reading official circulars, planning tables for the new school year.

Mistral Vibe for school principals: write the weekly staff memo, step by step

  • 10 min
  • every week

What to check

No student names and no staff member’s personal situation in the memo or in the assistant. Check every date: a mistake spreads to the whole team.

Write the weekly staff memoMistral Vibe · “Canvas”
  1. On chat.mistral.ai, type /canvas in the input field: a document opens next to the conversation.
  2. Paste the prompt below, with your rough notes.
  3. Edit the memo by hand in the document, or ask for a change: “shorter,” “put the report card deadline first.”
  4. Copy the memo into the school’s email or onto its online portal.

The prompt to copy

Help me write the weekly staff memo for my [middle school, high school], for the week of [date]. Here are my rough notes: [calendar, meetings, planned absences, deadlines, reminders, thanks]. Write a one-page memo, in this order: the week’s calendar day by day, what needs to be done with the deadline and the person to contact, things to know, a word from the principal in two sentences. Short sentences, no bureaucratic style, one piece of information per line. Write dates and times out in full. Do not mention any student. Add nothing I haven’t noted: if a date or a place is missing, write [to be confirmed].

Ground rules

The rules to follow with AI in this job

Always do this

  • Student and staff data: no names, no individual situations, no health, discipline, or career data in a consumer assistant.
  • Follow the framework set by the ministry and your education authority on approved tools, and involve the data protection officer before any new data processing.
  • You sign and you decide: a letter, minutes, or an allocation prepared by an assistant gets reviewed line by line, numbers and votes included.
  • The assistant does not state the law. Disciplinary procedure, appeal, report to the authorities: the official texts and your education authority’s departments are the reference.

Never hand this to AI

  • Using an online assistant to write a report to the authorities, an incident report, or a disciplinary file that names a student.
  • Handing it a staff evaluation, the notes from a review meeting, or the screening of applications.
  • Asking it to decide the resource allocation or a student’s placement in your place.
