What to check

The assistant can get the curriculum wrong: check the skills it cites against the official text. The free plan is limited to 5 projects.

Prepare a unitClaude · Projects
  1. In Claude’s sidebar, click “Projects,” then “+ New project.” Name it by grade level and subject.
  2. Add the excerpt from the official curriculum and your yearly plan. In “Set project instructions,” describe your class: grade level, class size, lesson length.
  3. Open a conversation in the project and paste the prompt below.
  4. Adjust each lesson to your class, then ask: “Give me a Word file.”

The prompt to copy

Help me prepare a [subject] unit for a [grade level] class, on [concept or theme], in [number] lessons of [length]. Rely on the curriculum excerpt uploaded to the project and cite the skills targeted. For each lesson: the goal in one sentence, the timed plan, what the students do, the notes they keep, and the materials. Include a diagnostic assessment at the start, a final assessment, and for each lesson a support for struggling students and an extension for the fastest ones. Present it all in a table. Flag the prerequisites I need to check before starting.

Ground rules

The rules to follow with AI in this job

Always do this

  • Student data: no names, no grades tied to a name, no health or family information in a consumer assistant. A number or an initial is enough.
  • Follow the framework set by your ministry or department of education, your district, and your school on approved tools, especially if students are to use them themselves.
  • You remain the author of the course and the only judge of a student’s work. AI offers a first draft, and you check the substance: dates, calculations, answer keys, alignment with the curriculum.
  • Respect copyright: upload only your own course material, or documents you have the right to use.

Never hand this to AI

  • Having it grade papers or decide on a report card comment for you.
  • Uploading papers with names on them, health assessments, or a student’s support documents.
  • Handing out a generated exercise or answer key without having done it yourself.
