AI training for bankers

AI doesn’t decide on a loan and doesn’t know your clients. It prepares a meeting, reads financial statements, structures a credit memo, and helps you review regulations. Bank confidentiality sets the limit: no client name outside the bank’s tools.

What to check

The example is fictitious. The figures you give the client come from the bank’s simulation tool, not from an assistant.

Explain a loan feature in plain wordsClaude
  1. Open Claude and paste the prompt below, with the feature to explain.
  2. Read the explanation and ask for another example if the first one doesn’t speak to your client.
  3. Check that the explanation matches your bank’s terms.
  4. Use it in conversation, or put it in your follow-up email.

The prompt to copy

I am a banker. Explain [deferred repayment on a mortgage] to a client with no financial knowledge. Five sentences at most, with no unexplained technical term, with a simple worked example on a loan of [€200,000 over 20 years]. Then present what the client gains and what it costs them, in two columns. State that the figures in the example are fictitious. End with the two questions the client should ask themselves before choosing.

Ground rules

The rules to follow with AI in this job

Always do this

  • Bank confidentiality: no client name, no account number, no statement in a consumer assistant. A client’s documents go only into the tools your bank has approved.
  • Ask your manager or compliance which tools are approved. Many banks prohibit outside assistants on work computers.
  • AI prepares, you decide and you sign. The recommendation on a loan, savings advice, and the check of the client’s profile remain your responsibility.
  • A rate, a threshold, or a rule gets checked in the internal memo or at the official source, as of today’s date. The figures you give the client come from the bank’s tools.

Never hand this to AI

  • Pasting a client’s bank statement, ID, tax notice, or pay stub into a free tool.
  • Letting an assistant judge a client’s creditworthiness or recommend an investment in your place.
  • Giving a client a simulation or a rate calculated by an assistant, instead of the one from the bank’s tool.
