What to check

The guide is a starting point: your knowledge of the field is what makes for good follow-ups. Do not give the names of the people you will meet; their role is enough.

Prepare the interview guide for the diagnosisClaude · Word file, in the conversation
  1. In Claude, open a conversation, preferably in the engagement’s project, where the scoping note is.
  2. Paste the prompt below, with the list of roles to meet.
  3. Test the guide in your first interview, then ask: “Remove the questions that led nowhere, and add a follow-up on this theme.”
  4. Download the guide as a Word file and print one note-taking grid per interview.

The prompt to copy

I am running a diagnosis on [question asked by the client] in [type of organization]. I will meet: [list of roles, without names]. Prepare a one-hour interview guide. An opening that recalls the framework and the confidentiality of what is said. Five themes, each with two open questions and two follow-ups. No leading questions. One final question: “What haven’t I asked that I should know?” Add the variants to ask depending on the role, and a one-page grid for recording the answers the same way in every interview. Give me a Word file.

Ground rules

The rules to follow with AI in this job

Always do this

  • Every engagement has its confidentiality clause. Before you upload a document, an export, or interview notes to an online tool, check what the contract allows and ask for the client’s written consent if needed.
  • The people you interview speak to you in confidence. Remove the names and the details that point to them before any processing, and tell them about any automatic note-taking.
  • The client pays for your judgment. AI prepares, sorts, and formats: the diagnosis and the recommendations are yours, and you must be able to defend them line by line.
  • A number goes into a deliverable only after verification: in the original source for a study, by recalculating for client data.

Never hand this to AI

  • Delivering a generated text as is: a boilerplate report is easy to spot, and it is your signature at the bottom.
  • Mixing two clients’ documents in the same project, the same notebook, or the same conversation.
  • Letting an assistant draw conclusions about people: evaluating an employee or naming who is responsible cannot be delegated.
