AI training for interior designers

AI doesn’t design your project, and it knows neither the space nor the client. It speeds up what surrounds it: showing a mood early, writing a clear scope of work, setting quotes side by side, finding a detail in a spec sheet. The plans and the choices stay yours.

What to check

The image respects neither the dimensions nor the real proportions: it doesn’t replace the plan. A photo of an interior says a lot about a person: no portraits, mail, or address in view. On a personal account, turn off “Improve the model for everyone” under “Data controls.”

Show the transformed room from a photoChatGPT · Image, from an attached photo
  1. Photograph the room straight on, at eye level, with no people or personal items in the frame.
  2. In ChatGPT, click the + button to the left of the message box, attach the photo, and paste the prompt below. You can also start from a sketch.
  3. Ask for one change at a time: “The same, with lighter wood flooring,” “Remove the rug.”
  4. Present the image as a mood direction, next to the dimensioned plan, which is the reference.

The prompt to copy

Here is a photo of [a living room] to renovate. Create an image of the same room after the work, seen from the same spot. Keep the walls, the openings, the ceiling height, and the light exactly as they are. Change only: floor in [light oak herringbone parquet]; walls [off-white, with the back wall in terracotta]; [a custom floor-to-ceiling bookcase on the right wall]; [a low sofa in natural linen and a round wood coffee table]. Realistic interior photo style, natural light. No people, no text, no brands. Don’t enlarge the room and don’t move the windows.

Ground rules

The rules to follow with AI in this job

Always do this

  • You are liable for the plans, the scope of work, and your advice: everything that comes out of an assistant is reread and checked before it is handed over.
  • Photos of an interior, the address, the budget, and a client’s quotes are confidential: files with no name, the training setting turned off, no personal items in the frame.
  • A generated image shows a mood, not the project: tell the client so, and keep the dimensioned plan as the only reference.
  • A technical rule (installation, wet rooms, electrical, accessibility of a retail space, condo association) is read at the source and confirmed with the contractor or an engineering firm.

Never hand this to AI

  • Anything involving the structure, gas, electrical, or fire safety: these points are for qualified contractors and engineering firms.
  • Choosing a contractor in the client’s place: AI sets the quotes side by side, you advise, the client decides.
  • Guaranteeing a dimension, a quantity, or a price based on a generated answer or image.
