What to check

A cited source can be poorly summarized or be about a company with the same name: open the link before you mention it to the customer. Your customer list is business information: in your account settings, on the “Preferences” page, turn off “AI data retention.”

Follow the news on your key accountsPerplexity · “Projects”
  1. In Perplexity, open the “Projects” section, then click “+ New project.” Name it “Key accounts.”
  2. In the project’s standing instructions, write: “Local sources first, dated facts, ten lines at most per company.”
  3. Every Monday, open the project and paste the prompt below.
  4. Click the numbers to open the sources, then note in the customer’s record what deserves a call.

The prompt to copy

Here are my key accounts: [list of five to ten companies, with their city]. For each one, look for what has been published in the last [seven] days: an executive appointed or leaving, an acquisition, a site opening or closing, results, a hiring or cost-cutting plan, a request for proposals, a dispute. For each company, give the dated facts with their source, or “nothing new.” End with the three accounts I should call this week, with the reason and an opening line to start the conversation. Don’t make anything up, and don’t include any fact without a source.

Ground rules

The rules to follow with AI in this job

Always do this

  • The CRM and your meeting notes contain personal data and confidential business information. Use the tools your company has approved, not a personal assistant account.
  • A price, a discount, a deadline, or a service commitment written by AI binds you as if you had written it. Check them against the contract and the price list before you send.
  • Many contracts include a confidentiality clause. Before you put a customer’s contract or figures into a tool, check that you have the right to.
  • Tell the attendees and get their consent before any automatic note-taking in a customer meeting.

Never hand this to AI

  • Letting AI interpret a contract clause on its own in front of a customer: when in doubt, the legal team decides.
  • Deciding on a discount, a credit, or a goodwill gesture on an assistant’s suggestion.
  • Sending meeting notes or an account review without rereading every figure and every name.
