What to check

The free plan gives you 1 “Research” report per month. A price or a review found online may be out of date: open the sources, and let nothing be written about a competitor that you could not prove.

Update a competitor profilePerplexity · “Research”
  1. Open Perplexity. In the search field, open the mode selector and choose “Research.”
  2. Paste the prompt below. The report arrives in a few minutes.
  3. Click the numbers to open the sources. Delete anything you could not verify.
  4. Export the report as a PDF or a document, add what your reps hear from customers, then share the profile.

The prompt to copy

Prepare a profile of [competitor name], our competitor in the [your market] market in [your country]. We sell [your offering] to [type of customers]. Look for: its offering and public prices, what it has launched in the past twelve months, the customers it names, its sales hires, what its customer reviews say, good and bad, and its changes in leadership or ownership. Present everything on one page, with the date and the source of each piece of information. Then suggest five questions our reps can ask a customer to bring out its limits, without disparaging it. Write “not found” when the information is not public.

Ground rules

The rules to follow with AI in this job

Always do this

  • Before rolling out a tool that records calls or analyzes reps’ activity, inform every employee and consult the employee representatives. These tools are there to help people improve, not to monitor them.
  • Customers must be told about any recording of a call or meeting, and be able to refuse it.
  • Forecasts, margins, pay: these numbers stay in the tools approved by the company. No employee or customer names in a personal assistant account.
  • You sign the numbers sent up to leadership. Recalculate the totals and check the formulas AI suggests.

Never hand this to AI

  • Evaluating, ranking, or disciplining a rep on the sole basis of a score or a summary produced by AI.
  • Finalizing a forecast, a quota, or a pay plan without checking the calculations.
  • Sharing with the team a competitor profile whose sources you have not opened.
