AI training for product marketing managers

AI doesn’t choose your product line. It reads the studies, makes sense of the sales export, and prepares the first draft of the brief, the sales pitch, and the committee deck. The positioning, the price, and the decision to launch stay yours.

What to check

A price found online is not a shelf price, and a source can be poorly summarized: check before you present to the committee. The free plan gives you one “Research” report per month.

Map the competitive landscape for a product linePerplexity · “Research”
  1. In Perplexity, click in the search field, open the mode selector, and choose “Research.”
  2. Paste the prompt below, describing your product line and your competitors in the brackets.
  3. Click the numbers in the answer: each one opens the page the information comes from. Open at least each competitor’s product page.
  4. Export the report as a PDF, fix what is out of date, and reuse the table in your line review.

The prompt to copy

You are preparing a competitive landscape for a product marketing manager. Our product line: [category, positioning, average price]. Market: [France, distribution channel]. Competitors to study: [names]. For each one, give in a table: the SKUs in the line and their formats, the retail prices found and where they were found, the promise and the claims put forward, the new releases of the last twelve months, the channels where the brand is present. End with the three spaces nobody occupies and the two threats to watch. Give the source and the date of each piece of information, and write “not found” rather than assuming.

Ground rules

The rules to follow with AI in this job

Always do this

  • A launch, a unit cost, a target price, or a margin is confidential: it does not go into a consumer tool. Use the company workspace, where your content is not used for training.
  • A product claim commits the company: health, environment, performance, comparison. It goes through regulatory or legal before it is written on packaging or in a sales pitch.
  • Every sales, market share, or price number gets recalculated at the source before a committee.
  • Customer reviews and survey responses contain personal data: remove names, emails, and order numbers before you analyze them.

Never hand this to AI

  • The positioning, the price, and the decision to launch or discontinue a SKU: AI informs, you decide.
  • Having it make up a market number, a test result, or a testimonial to pad a deck.
  • Adopting a product name suggested by AI without a trademark search: checking that a name is available is a specialist’s job.
