AI training for graphic designers

AI doesn’t come up with the idea or fix your kerning. It takes over what surrounds the creative work: quotes, proofreading before print, batch cutouts, placeholder text, client feedback to sort. The drawing, the typography, and the final say stay yours.

What to check

It reads the words, not the production specs: bleeds, image resolution, and colors are checked in your software and with the printer. It can miss an error: the proof approval signed by the client is still essential.

Proofread the text before proof approvalClaude · PDF attached to the conversation
  1. Export the layout as a lightweight PDF. In Claude, click the + button at the bottom left of the message box and attach the file.
  2. Paste the prompt below, with the client-approved text if you have it.
  3. Make the corrections in your original file, one comment at a time, then export again.
  4. Send the corrected PDF to the client and ask for their proof approval in writing.

The prompt to copy

Proofread this PDF like a proofreader before printing. Do not rewrite anything: only flag. Note, page by page and quoting the passage: spelling, grammar, and verb errors; typography errors (curly quotes and apostrophes, dashes and hyphens, double spaces, capitalization, abbreviations); inconsistencies between pages (a name spelled two ways, a date and a day of the week that do not match, a price, a phone number, a web address); any leftover placeholder text. Then compare with the client-approved text, pasted below, and list every difference: [paste the approved text]. End with the points you could not check.

Ground rules

The rules to follow with AI in this job

Always do this

  • A generated image does not necessarily give you exclusive rights, and the law is not settled yet. Tell the client what was generated and put it in writing in the quote or the rights assignment.
  • Read the license before you deliver: several free plans prohibit commercial use, keep ownership of the images, or make them public.
  • A client’s files (unreleased logo, photos, text before publication) are confidential: remove names, turn off the training setting, or get the plan that excludes it.
  • The proof approval is signed by the client, after your own proofread: an assistant proofreads, it does not approve.

Never hand this to AI

  • Delivering a logo or an illustration straight out of a generator: nothing guarantees it is unique or that it can be protected.
  • Imitating the style of a named illustrator or graphic designer, or reproducing an existing brand.
  • The technical check of print files: bleeds, resolution, colors. That is done in your software and with the printer.
