AI training for plumbers

AI doesn’t solder, doesn’t adjust a burner, and doesn’t measure anything. It helps with the rest: the quote written after the visit, the service call report, the boiler manual, the annual service reminders, getting paid before you leave.

What to check

Wispr always sends your voice to its servers and doesn’t work without a connection. The free plan stops at 1,000 words per week on phone. Reread what you write about the cause: this report may be passed on to an insurer. Dictate while parked.

Dictate the service call report before you leaveWispr Flow · Dictation on your phone
  1. Before you leave, open an email or a text message to the customer on your phone and tap the text area.
  2. On iPhone, hold the globe icon on the keyboard and choose “Wispr Flow.” On Android, tap the “Flow” bubble.
  3. Dictate following the template below, as you would explain it to the customer. The text comes out punctuated, without the hesitations.
  4. Reread the part numbers and the values, then send. Add brands and trade terms in the “Dictionary” tab so they are spelled correctly next time.

The prompt to copy

Ground rules

The rules to follow with AI in this job

Always do this

  • Gas, flue gases, hot water: trade standards, regulations, and the manufacturer’s manual come before an assistant’s answer. A doubt about gas or carbon monoxide gets settled on site, with your measuring instruments.
  • A signed quote and a service certificate commit you and your ten-year liability insurance. Quantities, prices, VAT, and measured values: you set them and you write them.
  • Your customer list and photos of a home are personal data. Write only to the customers concerned, give them a way to unsubscribe, and publish nothing without permission.
  • Subsidies and VAT rates change often. Point the customer to the official page, and don’t write any subsidy amount on a quote.

Never hand this to AI

  • Having an assistant size a boiler, a heat pump, a water heater, or a pipe system without redoing the calculation.
  • Following a fault diagnosis from an assistant on a gas appliance, or guiding a customer remotely so they do the work themselves.
  • Presenting a subsidy amount as guaranteed, or using it as an argument to close the sale.
