AI training for social educators

AI doesn’t observe a person, explain their behavior, or write their support plan for you. It helps you prepare an activity, make an adapted handout, find a passage in the facility’s program plan, and format your written work, with no names at all.

What to check

Describe a typical group, never a young person or an adult who could be recognized. The assistant’s ideas are general: you are the one who knows what suits this group, on that day.

Prepare an educational activity planClaude · Word file, in the conversation
  1. Write down the setting: the type of group, the number of people, the age range, the duration, the place, the budget. No names, no individual situations.
  2. In Claude, paste the prompt below, with the goals the team has set.
  3. Adjust: “plan an alternative in case someone doesn’t want to take part,” “cut the supplies down to what we already have.”
  4. Ask: “Give me a Word file,” reread it with your colleagues, then hand the plan to your supervisor.

The prompt to copy

Help me prepare an activity plan for [the group: for example six teenagers aged 13 to 16 living in a children’s home, eight adults in a group home]. Activity: [cooking workshop, forest outing, cooperative game, writing workshop]. Educational goals set by the team: [for example waiting your turn, seeing a task through, speaking up in the group]. Duration: [1 hr 30 min], staff: [2], budget: [amount]. Write: the minute-by-minute schedule, the supplies, the role of each staff member, two alternatives if the group loses interest, the safety points, and an empty grid for noting what we will observe. Don’t suggest any goal for a particular person: that is our work as a team.

Ground rules

The rules to follow with AI in this job

Always do this

  • Confidentiality and discretion: depending on your role, the law binds you to professional secrecy (as it does in France), and the respect owed to people always requires it. No names, no photos, no parts of a file, no recognizable story in a consumer tool.
  • AI doesn’t observe, doesn’t explain a behavior, and doesn’t suggest any educational approach for a real person. The individual support plan is built with the person, their family, and the team.
  • Writing that goes into a person’s file is dictated with a model that runs on the computer, not online, and is written in the facility’s software.
  • Follow your facility’s rule on approved tools, and ask for management’s approval before you upload an internal document.

Never hand this to AI

  • Telling it about the behavior of a child or an adult you support to ask for an explanation, a hypothesis, or an educational response.
  • Uploading to an online tool an incident note, a report meant for a judge or for child welfare services, an individual support plan, or a photo of a person you support.
  • Recording a team meeting or an interview with a note-taking tool: the people discussed there never agreed to anything.
