What to check

Reread the posting as a candidate would: a criterion unrelated to the job can be discriminatory. On a personal account, paste nothing confidential about the company.

Write a job posting from the manager’s briefChatGPT · “Chat” mode
  1. Open ChatGPT and stay in “Chat” mode.
  2. Paste the notes from the brief. If you have the job description, attach it with the + button to the left of the message box.
  3. Add the prompt below and send it.
  4. Ask for an edit (“more direct,” “shorten the responsibilities”), then have the manager approve the text.

The prompt to copy

You are helping a recruiter write a job posting. From the manager’s notes below, write a posting for a [permanent] [job title] position in [city, remote work possible or not]. Outline: the role in three sentences; five concrete responsibilities; what the person really needs to be able to do, in four criteria at most; what would be a plus; what we offer, with the salary range [range]; the steps of the hiring process. Simple, direct tone, professional, no clichés. Write no criterion related to age, sex, origin, or family status, and flag any you find in the notes.

Ground rules

The rules to follow with AI in this job

Always do this

  • Non-discrimination: only job-related criteria count. Never age, sex, origin, address, photo, health, or family status, neither in a prompt nor in a screening.
  • A human reads and decides. No candidate is turned down by a machine alone, and you must be able to explain every rejection.
  • Personal data: tell candidates which tools process their application, do not keep a resume beyond the period you announced, and do not paste one into a personal account.
  • Ask for the candidate’s consent before any automatic note-taking in an interview.

Never hand this to AI

  • Ranking or scoring candidates in your place.
  • Guessing a person’s personality, age, or state of mind from their resume, voice, or face.
  • Verifying a degree or a reference: call the school or the former employer, with the candidate’s consent.
